Early New England Home Designs was formed in 2005 by Joseph E.
Perry to provide custom designs of homes which were correct, both
inside and out. The original homes
were much the same in plan; with variations occurring at the entry,
stairs, and trim. The greatest variations appeared as the
homes experienced an evolutionary process driven by an increase in
family size or an increase in household income. We see the
differences in homes which many say are the same.
Not everyone desiring to live in authentic Early New England
Home can do so. We take
pride in our ability to design and specify a home which is correct,
appearing as an original on the outside and feeling as an original
on the inside. Where
many look at two similar homes and say, “these are the same”, we see
the differences. This
ability is used to design your home.
Our specialty are the homes styles of Early New England Period, but we do not impose limits on ourselves. Features of Early New England Homes can be found in most home styles because of their charm and simplicity. Applying the philosophies of Early New England designs with newer styles can produce dramatic effects.
Our Mission is to bring the architecture of the sixteen and seventeen hundreds into the 21st Century. We are still striving to learn the answer to problems which confronted the colonists, early colonial homes faced south to allow as much light in as possible and assist with heating in the winter. It is safe to say the original homes built were constructed in rural areas; it did not take long for urban construction to begin. The how’s and why’s of early New England homes can be found on the ‘Home Styles’ and ’Information’ pages of our site, along with a bit of history.
